Welcome to The Organic Logic Project

PROJECT OVERVIEW

The Organic Logic Project is a cultural quest in the contemporary landscape for a more integrated and harmonious path into the limitless horizon of the human potential. At present The Project operates as a small organic farm and work exchange volunteer organization located on a small island in the Gulf of Ancud, in Southern Chile. Currently the project is in the initial phase and in the process of developing a basic farm infrastructure. Among the short term goals are to improve and expand accommodations, to provide organically grown produce to guests, volunteers, and the local community, and to become a part of the expanding organic and permaculture network.

The encompassing organizational objectives of the project are investigative interdisciplinary research in organic development, advocacy for organic development pilot projects in Agroecology, and defining the potential of organic development in organizational autonomy and ecological stability.

The Project is an exploration of the ingenuity and creative spirit of the contemporary age, aspiring to help envision the impossibilities of today that will become the commonplace traditions of tomorrow.

The geological epoch know as the Pleistocene, (often referred to as the Ice Age) lasted from about 2,500,000 to 11,000 years ago and was the time of the majority of human “prehistory”. The Pleistocene was marked by a fluctuating climate, wide scale freezing and thawing, that would have made agriculture impossible. The geological period known as the Holocene (wholly new or current age/era) began around 11,000 years ago is marked by a period of relative climate stabilization. This stabilization of the climate was a principal factor that made the development of agriculture possible. The continued functioning of modern civilization relies on the inherited agricultural legacy of the of the relative climate stability of the Holocene. Geologists have coined the term the Anthropocene (age of man) to indicate the new geological age that we've entered into at approximately the time of the Industrial Revolution around the 18th century. As industry and technology advanced into the 21st century, increases the burning of fossil fuels, mass production and consumption have caused demonstrable negative effects on the climate, ecology, and culture of the modern age. The Anthropocene echos the now familiar story that we are rapidly jeopardizing the climate stability of the Holocene.

It's illustrative to look at two contemporary examples of countries that that used agriculture to enliven their economies. The Netherlands,. Cuba

Henry David Thoreau observed almost two centuries ago, “Be wary of technology; it is often merely an improved means to an unimproved end.” In the increasingly technological world of the modern age, complex questions arise surrounding the incautious wagering of the fate of future generations. Are we the masters of our technology and holders of our own destiny or the unwitting participants of an experiment of our own unintentional making, largely unconscious of the potential and uncertain outcome? Or can we come together as deliberate people, as a network of individuals, organizations and communities to consciously evolve autonomy and sovereignty in an ecologically stable and a more organic culture?

“When we want culture more than potatoes, and illumination more than sugar-plums, then the great resources of a
world are taxed and drawn out, and the result, or staple production, is, not slaves, nor operatives, but men,
those rare fruits called heroes, saints, poets, philosophers, and redeemers.”
-Henry David Thoreau-
